Watch the powerful transformation of an unhandled young horse into a willing partner in just three days. Each colt starter will choose a colt to train daily.
On Saturday, teams return for a final round to show what their colt has learned in basic horsemanship, obstacles, and a freestyle that showcases the partnership they’ve built.
This event is more than a colt starting competition. It is also a memorial honoring a fellow cowboy we lost in October 2025. In his memory, we celebrate his life, his talent as a colt starter, and the deep love he had for horses. Donation jars and Venmo QR codes will be available throughout the venue, with proceeds set aside to help injured local cowboys and cowgirls cover their bills and stay on their feet.

Wayne Peebles grew up in the saddle, and horses were part of him from the very beginning. He spent a large part of his life starting colts for the public and helping shape countless horses across the valley. Many knew him from rodeo grounds, long days cowboying on ranches, or hearing his voice ring out at the wrestling matches.
Wayne was known for his tireless work ethic, steady horsemanship, deep love for his family, and a streak of stubborn that never backed down. He leaves behind a legacy of \ a long line of horses who, because of his skill and care, went on to live happy, productive lives.
