Equine Sports Therapy Hi, I’m Jessie! I am a Certified Equine Sports Therapist for the Equine Athlete! I have grown up around and used performance horses my whole life. I am also a physical therapist (for humans) and my husband is farrier; it has been so fascinating to see the physical therapy-world and horse-world collide into Equine Therapy.
My technique is a muscular skeletal bodywork that’s a combination of deep tissue massage, physical therapy, acupressure, trigger point release and stretches. This combination helps the horse self adjust! My technique is called Structural Integration for Horses - Deep tissue massage and rebalancing mixed together.This is a massage-type of therapy for horses that will rebalance the body left to right, front to back, inside and out. Changes will happen in natural balance, performance, flexibility and behavior.
Structural Integration is a type of bodywork that focuses on the connective tissue, aka fascia, of the body. Just like you and me, a horses body works as a whole, interconnected machine. It is designed to move. It requires alignment and balance to do that well. When you or your horse’s body is “off” it affects how we move, our moods, and our motivation. We ask a lot from our horses, but they also require us to give them the care they need keep working. Regular bodywork will help keep a horse sound and willing to work. Accidents can happen, especially in today’s highly competitive events; but a little preventive maintenance can do a world of good.
Here are a few common conditions that could greatly be improved by sports therapy!
- Head tossing
- “Off” for no apparent reason
- Shoulder or hip lameness, stiffness and resistance
- Sore back, difficulty bending
- Coordination difficulties
- Short, choppy strides, incorrect leads
- “Cinchy” horses.
- Attitude problems.

We are an app that creates a profile for each horse. This profile is used to track rides, health data, experiences and training progress. We allow users to share their experiences easily with others. We also create owner confidence when entrusting their horse to a trainer and buyer confidence by knowing years of history of a horse.
Why Caballus?
Equus Ferus Caballus is the scientific name of the horse that we love. The Caballus App captures every experience that we have with the horse. Therefore when we use and share the experiences of Caballus, we are sharing the experience and history of our horse.
The History/Creation of Caballus
Trainers are often frustrated with the time it takes to give their clients, the horse owners, clear, consistent and accurate updates on their horses. They spend a lot of time trying to help the owner understand where their horses are in the training program, what they are working on and how the improvements are coming. Not only does it take a lot of time but trainers often have a hard time articulating exactly what they mean when they describe how the horse is doing.
Thus the concept of Caballus was created. An app that could record the starting point of a horse in training, evaluate and track performance using matrices, pictures and video. The app could then, if the owner wanted, send a notification every time the horse was worked with. The trainer might just send basic data of the ride (location, ride time and distance) or they could add comments, pictures and video. This also helps give the owner confidence that the horse is being consistently worked with and how.
When it comes time to buy or sell any horse with a Caballus profile. You now have the entire history of the horse. You can even identify how many hours of training the horse has had, where those hours were (training pen, trail, competition, etc.) what they were working on, pictures and videos of when they were young or highlights of their life. You can review vet and farrier records. All of this together creates buyer confidence. The buyer becomes willing to pay more for a horse with a Caballus profile.

The Idaho Horse Council was organized in 1975 with the purpose of creating a united front representing horse organizations, individual horse owners, and others involved with the horse industry in Idaho. The Council was created because charter members realized that: “As horse ownership and use increases, so do restrictions in the form of administrative or legislative regulations concerning various issues including travel, trail use, zoning, health requirements, horse shows and rodeos, tax status, racing, and access to state and federal lands.” The original founders believed that unless the horse industry is vigilant, informed and united, it will have no appreciable impact on the myriad of regulations beginning to affect the industry.
